School, Family, & Community Engagement

The School, Family, & Community Engagement (SFACE) department at AESD partners with parents/guardians, educators, local businesses, churches, community organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen the connections between our schools and our communities and improve educational outcomes for all students.

Our core work is anchored in:

Programs

Volunteer Network

SFACE empowers parents/guardians to be active stewards of their child’s educational process and facilitates family and community participation in their school community through outreach, events, educational opportunities, and community and faith-based partnerships. Become an AESD Volunteer.

Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO)

Before and after school programs available at all 24 school sites that provides engaging opportunities for students to interact with their peers, foster positive relationships, all while supporting their academic growth. Students are exposed to a variety of experiences including sports, literacy, technology, academic tutoring, coding, social emotional learning (SEL), and more. Learn more about ELO.

Parent Leadership Institute

PLI is composed of volunteer parent leaders from each school site that gather monthly at the district meetings to develop their leadership skills to promote parent engagement at their school, district, and community.

The institute is structured with 21st-century learning. Parents are coached to work with the 4C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking) that will help them develop a greater understanding of school programs.

PLI parent leaders facilitate parenting and academic workshops, promote parent engagement at school and district events, recruit parent volunteers, and represent the district at community events. Learn more about PLI.

FACE Specialists

Family and Community Engagement Specialists (F.A.C.E.S.) can provide information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies, and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.
