After More Than 20 years, All 23 Anaheim Elementary School District Schools Will Be On A Traditional Single-Track Calendar

ANAHEIM— After more than 20 years, all 23 Anaheim Elementary School District schools will now be on a traditional single-track calendar. This change has been well received by families at the three remaining AESD schools that are still on a multi-track calendar. At the January 30, 2019 Board meeting, the Board unanimously approved Thomas Edison, Horace Mann and Ponderosa Elementary Schools to join the other 20 AESD schools that operate on a single-track calendar and voiced their confidence that this was in the best interest of the students and their families.

Anaheim Elementary School District to Pioneer Orange County’s First Korean Dual Language Immersion Program

Anaheim Elementary School District will be starting Orange County’s first Korean Dual Language Immersion program in the Summer of 2019. The district currently has award-winning Spanish DLI programs at 8 schools, and by this summer all 23 school sites will offer DLI opportunities for students who are interested. The Korean DLI program will be offered at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. As the district expands the DLI programs and considered what languages to add, Korean was chosen based on input from the community and because there is a strong Korean community in Orange County, but no existing Korean DLI program. Anaheim is the 3rd largest city in the nation to with a Korean-speaking population, and neighboring city Fullerton is the top medium sized city with a Korean-speaking population.

Be a part of the conversation! We will be participating in the Speak Up Research Project. Speak Up is the first survey designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers and will also provide Anaheim Elementary School District the opportunity to learn about the unique digital learning aspirations of our teachers, students and parents. As key stakeholders, Speak Up provides parents with a mechanism for expressing their views to the administrators at their child’s school and district about key issues impacting their child’s education.

Blackboard Notification

Anaheim Elementary School District was notified by Blackboard — our parent communication system — that an accidental merging of parent accounts occurred for every district utilizing the system.

We at Anaheim Elementary School District do not currently utilize the Parent Account feature, and received a final notice that none of our accounts were affected by the accidental merger, as it was confirmed to be isolated only to parent accounts.

We take security of our data very seriously, and are constantly evaluating our systems, and training our staff on how to properly manage all student data and any other personal information we may collect in order to provide services to our students. If you have any questions regarding this incident, please contact Cory Robertson, or designee, at (714) 517-7532. Thank you.
