Community Schools Site Implementation Committee News
Dear Thomas Edison Community,
I am thrilled to introduce myself as Rosario Moreno, your proud Community Schools Leadership Assistant. Last Friday, on October 6, 2023, we had our inaugural Site Implementation meeting, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter in our journey.
Our meeting commenced with a warm welcome to the committee participants, emphasizing our school’s vision. To foster a deeper understanding of the diverse perspectives within our committee, we began with personal introductions, sharing our names, roles, and places of upbringing.
Our dedicated Committee comprises three passionate community members: Sandra Leyva from Latino Health Access Organization, Maritza Bemudez from Orange County Congregation Community Organization, and Nenexi Zamorano, Villages CommunityS chool Clinician. We were also joined by our amazing Edison 5th Grade students who represented our student body, and highly involved parents – Rosie Roman Pescador, Eymi Arellano, and Maria Bernal – along with our esteemed teachers, staff, and administrators.
During this productive meeting, we established norms that will guide our discussions in future monthly meetings. Additionally, we shared the Community School Collective Definition crafted by our District Steering Committee on August 16, 2023. To complete the session, we discussed the Essential Community School Components for Transformation, underlining our shared goal of transforming Thomas Edison into a Community School where every student can thrive and succeed.
