A Word From Our Principal

Dear Franklin Families,

Welcome to the 23-24 school year. Last year was our first year “fully” back, with family volunteers, on-campus events, field trips, and on-site parent meetings and training, just to name a few. We look to increase and build on these wonderful experiences for our scholars and families. Our incredible PTA supported us in so many ways. Their generosity with their time and resources was simply amazing. We encourage each family to consider joining and being a part of an outstanding association supporting all our children.

We will continue to enhance and improve each of our instructional programs to provide the very best opportunities for all scholars. In addition to our ongoing support of technology, we will be providing additional engaging learning experiences across the curriculum. For example, these will include one-to-one technology access, field trips, assemblies, supplemental programs, as well as promoting visual and performing arts. Our caring and professional staff know the importance of educating the whole child, understanding that each child’s well-being is always the priority.

We have an incredible Community Support Team (CoST), consisting of our school psychologist, counselors, health and behavior aids, as well as administrators, focused on children and families in need of behavioral or emotional support. Scholars in need of academic intervention receive support through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). Our Teachers On Special Assignment (TOSA), Resource Specialist Teacher (RSP), and aids are here to meet the specific needs of students experiencing challenges.

Here are a few things I would like to share with you for this year. Unfortunately, we continue to have a very high Chronic Absenteeism rate, a little over 31%. This means that a scholar has been absent more than 10% of the school year, roughly 18 days. We will be reaching out to families to find ways to support their child’s attendance. I would encourage everyone to watch this short video from our district regarding attendance. Attendance at AESD / Attendance at AESD (Español)

Franklin is officially a uniform school. We highly encourage families to participate in our uniform program. Here is a link to our uniform policy and FAQ. Families who do not wish to participate must sign a waiver indicating their non-participation and the understanding that district dress code must be followed.

We had a tremendous year last year, but there is so much more still ahead. Together as a team we can achieve great things for all scholars. Families, scholars, teachers, staff, and administration working together for one common goal, providing scholars with the best educational experience possible. We know we cannot do this alone and greatly appreciate your support. 23-24 will be better than ever, thanks to all of you.

Best wishes and thank you. Go Falcons!

Michael Heiner, Ed.D.
