Instructional Materials Opt Out Information

In Anaheim Elementary School District, parents/guardians may request that their student be excused or “opted-out” of specific instruction, educational activities, or instructional materials that substantially interfere with their families religious beliefs. In response to an opt-out request, the Anaheim Elementary School District will review the request and shall grant an opt-out request that aligns with Board-adopted policies and legal requirements.

The following is guidance related to the U.S. Supreme Court’s holding in Mahmoud v Taylor, which grants parents the right to opt their child out of instruction or materials after establishing that such instruction or materials would substantially interfere with the religious development  or undermines the religious beliefs they wish to instill in their child.
