I am very excited to begin the implementation of our distinguishing practice emphasizing Fitness and Nutrition school. Over the next few years we will be strategically implementing strategies to ensure a high level of fitness education and activity throughout the school day. Students will also be learning about the importance of balanced nutrition, calorie intake and planning healthy meals. There will be many opportunities for families to support and participate in this essential learning.
One of the first practices we will put into play is a modification of Lunch with a Loved One. At each of these special lunches there will be a focus on a specific color of a fruit or vegetable and parents will be asked to bring a fruit or vegetable to share with their child. This will provide families additional opportunities to talk about healthy food choices as well as time to collaborate in choosing the fruit or vegetable. Throughout the year you will be notified of special events related to our distinguishing practice.
We will continue with the implementation of Common Core State Standards. Students in third – sixth grade will begin using our new math program titled “My Math “. Madison teachers and I will be participating in professional development to support the implementation of this program.
Parent classes offered this year will be designed to develop your understanding of Common Core State Standards, instructional strategies, use of technology and how you can best support your child at home.
