Anaheim, Calif. — The Anaheim Elementary School District (AESD) proudly announces the appointment of Alva Álvarez to its Board of Education. Ms. Álvarez was officially sworn in as Trustee for Area 4 during a Special Meeting of the Board of Education held on April 16, 2025.
A longtime Anaheim resident, AESD alumna, and proud parent of a former AESD student, Ms. Álvarez brings both personal and professional dedication to her new role. A licensed mental health professional with over a decade of experience supporting the well-being of children, youth, and families across Orange County, she currently serves as a School Based Mental Health Specialist II for the Santa Ana Unified School District. Her work includes providing direct services, clinical supervision, and consultation to school teams to promote student success and wellness.
Ms. Álvarez has also served on numerous local committees and advocacy groups focused on educational equity, family engagement, and community empowerment. The daughter of immigrant parents and a former English learner herself, she is passionate about creating inclusive, student-centered environments where every child can thrive.
“We are excited to welcome Alva Álvarez to the AESD Board of Education,” said Superintendent Jesse Chavarria. “Her deep connection to the Anaheim community and her commitment to public education will further strengthen our mission of putting students first.”
“Ms. Álvarez brings a valuable perspective as a community advocate, parent leader, and mental health expert,” added Board President Juan Gabriel Álvarez. “Her experience and passion for service will be instrumental in guiding our work to ensure equity and excellence in every classroom.”
Ms. Álvarez holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Cal State Fullerton, and both Pupil Personnel Services and Preliminary Administrative Services credentials. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she is known for her strengths in relationship-building, program development, and trauma-informed care.
Her appointment reflects AESD’s ongoing dedication to community involvement and representative leadership. Ms. Álvarez looks forward to partnering with Area 4 students, families, and educators to support and build upon the district’s strong foundation of academic success, equity, and innovation.
