First Graders Simulated Eating Like Birds

To discover why birds have different beaks Loara students simulated eating like birds do. Students gathered food mixed with stones and not mixed with stones. Students used a sharp beak (warbler) and a flat rounded beak (duck). It was fun to discover why various birds have different beaks to help them to survive in their differing environments. Students made their own beaks out of bent straws and flattened Dixie cups and used another cup to fill our “stomachs.”
