Your School website is built on the WordPress platform, the most popular Content Management System (CMS) in the world and is used by nearly 75 million websites. Because it is so widely used there are tons of resources out there to help you master the platform. One great resource is Lynda.com<\/a> but since each installation can work and look a little differently here on the DES site you'll find quick tips and how-tos specific to our district sites.<\/p>\n\n\n \n

Before Starting: <\/strong>Log into the Staff Portal<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternatively<\/strong><\/em>, scroll down to the bottom of the site you wish to edit and click the Login button.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

To access your sites Admin Dashboard use the black admin bar at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW TO EDITING?<\/strong>
If you are new to editing a site, your @aesd.org email address will need to be added to each site you wish to have editing rights to.
Contact the district Web Developer for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After you are logged in if you have access to edit a site, you will see it listed under \"My Sites\"<\/strong> at the top left of your site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To add\/remove images from the large image slider on the home page follow these steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    From the Admin Dashboard click Meta Slider Pro<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    From the Available Sliders<\/strong> at the top make sure the \u201cHome Slider\u201d is selected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To Add Images<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Click \"Add Slide\"<\/li>
    2. Select an image from your computer<\/li>
    3. Click Save <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      To Remove Images<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Hover over the image thumbnail and click the red Trashcan icon<\/li>
      2. Click Save<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        Images for the homepage slider should be EXACTLY 1110 x 290 px<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Do not rename the slider. This will cause the slider to not load on your home page.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

        A Word From Our Principal <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        To edit the \"A Word From Our Principal\" message on the home page follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Click the \"Read More\" to navigate to the full posts<\/li>
        2. At the top in the black Admin Bar click Edit Post<\/strong><\/li>
        3. Make changes to the main post content<\/li>
        4. Make changes to the Post Excerpt<\/strong> in the Document panel if necessary<\/li>
        5. Save your changes<\/li>
        6. Check your website home page to check the results. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Site Navigation Menu <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          As a site editor, you do not have access to add items to navigation menus. If you'd like something added to your school's navigation area please contact the District Web Developer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          To add news stories to the home page simply add a new post. To do this follow the steps on the News Articles<\/a> tutorial<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n

          Creating a Post<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          From the Dashboard of your site under the Post<\/strong> menu options click Add New<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Blocks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          As of January 2019, WordPress 5.0 brings along one major update \u2013 the new Gutenberg editor. Gutenberg helps you create content in a more visual way than the previous TinyMCE editor. To do this, it provides a library of pre-built elements, or \u2018blocks\u2019. Each block can be added to a page or post and customized. There are blocks to handle basic components such as text and images, as well as some that provide advanced features (such as buttons and tables).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1 Start with a title block<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          2 Add some text using the Paragraph Block<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          3 Add other Blocks as you need them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Add single images, image galleries, columns, quotes, buttons, videos,<\/strong> and many other blocks of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Featured Images<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          The featured image appears on the home page as a thumbnail<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Image size should be around 500 x 500 pixels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          To add an image click Document<\/strong> in the right sidebar then Featured Image<\/strong> to upload or select an image from the media library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
