As you are well aware, the State of California is currently under a state of emergency due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the construction industry. Material suppliers, certain contractors, fabricators, and shippers have closed or have been substantially impacted by this worldwide emergency. Consequently, the District has been alerted by the contractor, Pinner Construction, that Sunkist Modernization and Reconstruction Project is being impacted and there will be delays.
The contractor will continue to work hard to overcome project delays by working longer hours and six days a week while protecting their staff using appropriate health-safety measures, but there are also things beyond their control like delays in the delivery of materials. Due to the construction project delays, Sunkist Elementary School will continue to temporarily operate at the Key Elementary School facility for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. We will continue to work with the contractor, Pinner Construction, to update you with the latest information and status of the project.
